Solutions to avoid problems from worn spark plugs:

Spark plug type



The PSA/BMW 1.6T engines (EP6-DT and EP6-DTS) have a new type of platinum spark plugs manufactured by NGK, code PLZKBR7A-G.
It is a new type of spark plugs because they are small in diameter (12mm) and have a long neck (26,5mm).

To remove/install spark plugs you will need a special tool from Peugeot/BMW since traditional hex tools will not do the job.
The spark plugs are made of platinum, to withstand the very high combustion temperatures in direct injection engines. Platinum tips are very durable and almost impossible to melt because of improper use / bad driving.

Their nominal spark gap is 0.75mm (0.8 according to NGK). For a turbocharged 1.6thp engine working at stock boost, this gap is enough. But once an ECU upgrade is installed and the engine starts working at raised boost (1,3 bars for example), many problems rise because of the big spark gap.

Because of the big gap the plug might not fire, or miss at high speed (called sputtering)- which is usually accompanied with a "random engine misfire" check engine light.

For raised boost we recommend narrowing the gap to at least 0.7mm or 0.65mm for best results and no problems.





1. Renew spark plugs with new ones from Peugeot/BMW
2. Use a smaller spark gap. Using a spark gap gauge, narrow the gap with caution.
3. Renew spark plugs every 15.000 to 20.000 km. Ignition problems caused by worn spark plugs have a bad impact in engine economy.
4. Cars running on our ECU upgrades seem to have longer spark plug life, because of reduced combustion temperatures. We still recommend renewing them every 20.000km at most.

Mikä on huolto-ohjelman mukainen vaihtoväli? Ei kai nykyautoissa enää joka huollossa tulppia vaihdeta? Ja ovatko nuo minkä hintaisia?
Onko muita erikoisuuksia noin huollon suhteen? Itse olen tähän asti huollot tehnyt, onnistuukohan jatkossakin jos hankkii C5 THP automaatin?

Vaihtotyöhön ryhtyessä kannattaa varmaan päivittää työkalupakkikin aika erikoisella tulppahylsyllä, ei ihan joka satsista löydy 12-kulmaista tulppahylysyä...   Ja kun lukee stoorin loppuun, niin vähissä on 12mm tulppahylsyt, 6-kulmaisenakaan

Sopivan pitkän 14mm (12-kulmaisen) hylsyn löytää ainakin Gedoren listoilta

Kuinka mahtaisi keston kannalta käyttäytyä NGK:n iridium-tulppa ILZKBR7A-8G?   
Muutenhan kaiketi arvoiltaan vastaava, mutta Iridiuminhan pitäisi olla kestoltaan parempaa (ja haittaako heikompi johtavuus).

Onko kokeiltu PSA:n koneisiin?

Onko jollakin jo käytännön ongelmia  tuon meidän THP:n kohdalla tulpista ennen huoltovälin täyttymistä vai voidaanko tämä aihe todeta "hätävarjeluksi" ?
